Holmes Street Jail

The Holmes Street Jail opened 1837 and was the first Jail to be built several blocks away from the county courthouse. Prier Jails and courthouses were built together. Many additions and improvement were made to the Jail through the years. Eventually, the jail would expand to over 300 cells. In 1970 a new jail complex opened not long after the Holmes Street Jail was abandoned. Hope you enjoy the Holmes Street Jail gallery.

Central Islip Psychiatric Center

Central Islip Psychiatric Center opened its doors in 1889, with a little over 1000 acres of land it was the largest asylum by land area. The hospital closed in 1996 and much of the land was sold to NYIT. There are still a few buildings that lay abandoned on the campus. I hope you enjoy the first of many galleries to come of CIPC.

The Enchanted Forest

The Enchanted Forest opened in August 1955 in Ellicott City, Maryland and finally closed in 1996. As recently as 2005 a number of items were moved to Clark's Elioak Farm, and restored. I hope you enjoy a quick trip down memory lane.
